Dear Parents and Friends,

Some of our Year 10 pupils enjoyed a fabulous cultural experience on their trip to Cardiff. By all accounts the trip was a great success so thank you to all staff and pupils involved.

Selected year 10's experienced a problem-solving day with the Army Dragons March. This was a great opportunity for them to use their leadership skills and find out their aptitudes for different types of roles in the Army. Incidentally, Mr. Smith scored 83% on the test - the highest score in the last six years!

After interviewing several candidates we have appointed four posts for leading the prefect team

Head Boy - Jay Thomas
Head Girl - Jeni Lloyd
Deputy Head Boy - Rex Harrison
Deputy Head Girl - Beth Nelder

Can I thank all those who applied and congratulations to the successful candidates.

Finally, can I wish you all a happy and safe half term and can I remind all Year 11's what an excellent opportunity for thorough revision it is!

Mr Simeon Molloy

Welsh Trip to Caerdydd

On Monday a group of year 10 Welsh students travelled to Cardiff to learn more about the area. The trip involved tours of the £67 million Welsh Assembly Senodd building, Cardiff Castle, The Millennium Centre, the Big Pit mining museum and the breath taking Millennium Stadium. As well as this we also had a great time bowling, shopping in the city centre and being subjected to arguably the worst film anyone had ever seen!
Overall the trip was a great success and everyone had an excellent time. We would like to say diolch yn fawr iawn to Miss Brown for organising the trip as well as to Mrs Williams and Mr Fisher for accompanying us.

Environment Club

Big Lottery Fund Logo

During this year at Argoed High School we have done a lot to help the environment. The Environment Club has cleaned up the Environmental area and added a pond. They have also brought the garden area to life. They layed the path, painted the benches and even planted trees. The art club have helped by painting an anti litter mural on the wall under the staffroom. Logos have been made for the school houses out of bottle tops.
The environment has been built into lessons. The eco - schools project has started and we have earned the bronze award. Hopefully we will continue with this project and earn the green flag.

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, 8NM held a café, serving homemade cakes and sandwiches, raising money for Shelter. The café was a big success! Each table has their own waiter or waitress and every table was occupied on both days. 8NM worked very hard and were professional at all times! We had a lot of support from staff and pupils and together, we raised a grand total of £205.20.
