Newsletter 7 July 2006

posted Friday, 7 July 2006
Dear Parents and Friends,

Thank you to all those who attended the year 10 parents evening. This coming year is a very important one and by working in partnership we can succeed together.

I would like to thank all pupils and staff for a wonderful sports day. The atmosphere was very positive and the day ran like clockwork.
More information about the day follows.

Unfortunately the science year 9 ‘Big Bang’ trip has had to be rearranged for Friday 14th July. There was a transport problem at the coach company.

Dates to remember:

                Monday 10th July
                Tuesday 11th July

are both training days and the school will be closed to pupils.

Well done to year 8 and 9 girls who took part in the rounders tournaments this week in very hot conditions!
We now need to keep our squads in training for next year!

Flintshire String Group

On Wednesday Flintshire Senior String Group had a workshop at Theatre Clwyd and were able to meet Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. We talked to them about playing the violin and our trip to Berlin next week. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

News from the Modern Languages department.

We have successfully e.twinned Argoed with a French school: the Lycée Professionel Le Mans Sud. We hope that this will be a motivating experience for GCSE pupils in particular and hope to start e.mailing and blogging in September.

Don’t forget that next Friday, 14th July is Bastille day and pupils will be able to choose from a French menu in the school canteen.
Bon Appetit!!

Those pupils who are going on the visit to Germany MUST bring in forms and deposit as soon as possible.

H.S.A News

An urgent plea from the H.S.A.
The New Brighton Carnival is on 15th July and the H.S.A are holding a bottle stall.
We would appreciate donations of bottles (from sauce to perfume, from water to wine) which we can put on the stall.
Donations can be left with reception or given to Miss Grice.
Thank you.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have received two nominations, Mrs Amanda Bragg and Mrs Kate Harding. As there is only one vacancy an election needs to be held.
Letters and ballot papers for parents have been distributed to all pupils today.

On Wednesday 8CS organised a football competition to raise money for Shelter Cymru. Each class was asked to raise £2. The winner was 8CS who beat 8MG on penalties after a goalless final. Final score was 2 - 1.
Thank you to all those who took part and to Josh, Lee and Joe who refereed the games. Thank you also to Mr Smith for his help
