Despite more than a "hint" of rain, Sports Day was a great success. What a talented bunch of athletes you are! A very fine example of team work combined with excellent individual performances. Thank you to all staff and pupils involved.
It was a pleasure to meet so many of our Year 10 parents on Monday this week. I was delighted to receive many positive comments, thank you. We really value all feedback and suggestions for improvement and I would urge parents not to wait until parents evenings to make contact. Thank you to parents, pupils and staff for making this such a successful evening.
Our Year 7 pupils went on their humanities field trip to Beaumaris and Snowdonia on Thursday this week. The staff report back to me that the pupils were absolutely brilliant in terms of both their behaviour and enthusiasm (despite a sudden climate change involving thunder and lightening). Llongyfarchiadau i bawb.
If you are going on the Alton Towers Trip on Monday please remember to arrive by 7.50am and ensure arrangements are in place for you to be collected from the school on your return at approximately 7.30pm. Pupils not going to Alton Towers should report to school as normal, full school uniform required.

Reading is fun!!
To prove that reading is fun and suitable for everyone of all ages, on Tuesday 1st July, 9SR visited Watts Dyke Infant School, where we read a story book to small groups of year one pupils. After reading the books, we discussed the story and characters with them.
After we had to read to different groups, it was then time for a break and we all went outside, where we organised a few games (which everyone enjoyed, including us!).
Soon breaktime was over and it was time to go back inside where we collected our books and said goodbye to the children. One thing was for sure; the children seemed to enjoy themselves and so did we!

Cricket
On Thursday evening, Yr 7 & 8 Cricket team played their first match of the season against the Elfed. The match took place at the Argoed with the home team winning. Argoed boys played extremely well. Well done!

Science & French Departments
At present, I do not have enough Students who want to go on the Disney Resort Paris trip. Unless I have 40 students deposits by Wednesday 9th July, I will have to cancel the trip and refund any deposits already paid.
This is an excellent trip and has successfully run for the last two years and it would be a shame to have to cancel it.

Congratulations to the Yr 7 & 8 cricket team who won their debut match against the Elfed last night by 20 runs. Man of the match was Jordan Sweeney who took 3 wickets, batted 32 and captained the team superbly. Well done!
Rounders
Congratulations to the Year 9 Mixed Rounders Squad who competed in the national Championships in Rotherham last Saturday. They played extremely well and even drew with the team who were eventual runners up. They played against National players and came overall 4th place, a huge achievement.
Well done!
Yr 7 & 8 Athletics
Well done to those who competed in the Yr 7 & 8 Championships. Overall, 10 schools took part which meant 20 competitors per event. We are awaiting results and will let teams know where they finished!
