Dear Parents and Friends,

Thank you to all those who attended our Year 9 Parents Evening on Tuesday. Once again the turn out was impressive and I believe it is a fine example of succeeding together for excellence in learning.

The consortium concert was held on Wednesday with pupils from local primary and secondary schools performing an assortment of dance, music and theatre. It was an entertaining evening and all the participants from age 4 to 16 were brilliant. Well done to all the staff and pupils involved.

The Mold Rotary Club invited myself, Mrs Tibbett and the Youth Speaks team (Tom Blomfield, Jacob Bragg and Domonic Cawdell) to speak at a lunch meeting on Monday. The three boys were very impressive and received many plaudits for their achievements. Well done to all involved.

The exam season is looming and revision is the key to success! We have had positive feedback from pupils regarding the Easter revision sessions with some good ideas for improving them. There will be another set of revision days during half term and we will incorporate some of those ideas. Please ensure that if your son or daughter has put their name down that they attend the session! Last years results showed that pupils who attended the sessions benefited from them.

GCSE Countdown : Only 6 school days before
the first GCSE Exam!

Festival Of Youth Sport
Argoed attended the biggest Schools Sports Festival in North Wales yesterday at Deeside. We entered the Streetdance, Cheerleading & Basketball competitions for years 7 & 8. All competitors have received coaching from outside agencies over the past few months and have been dedicated to attending practices and rehearsals. The Dance Group bought their own costumes as did the Cheerleaders and they all looked fantastic!
The competition was tough in all activities and the dancers and the cheerleaders narrowly missed out on a medal. The boys basketball team played fantastically and during a close final came out as champions!
Well Done Boys!

Argoed have also had year 10 girls volunteering their time to work with year 7 & 8 pupils and have visited primary schools weekly to offer their help too. They attended yesterday and were each in charge of different schools cheerleading groups.
Year 10 volunteers: Emily Buckley-Jones, Erin Martin, Sara Prytherch, Lydia Drury, Mikayla Chase and Samantha Mikhail.

Music Update
Well done to all members of the Senior Band who took part in the consortium concert on Wednesday evening. You sounded fantastic and there were many positive comments about your performance afterwards. Well done! Mr Millard

Library News
The Library Poetry Competition closes on May 8th 2009!
Write a poem about being in school. Say what you think, within reason! Prizes for the winners of each age group.
Remember the library is open everyday until 4pm for after-school study and reading. The Book Club meets on Tuesday 3.20 until 4.00pm. All welcome. If any student has any requests for books they would like the library to buy, please see Mrs Nicholls.

SNAG Group
Our SNAG (School Nutrition Action Group) are continuing to work to ensure that all pupils have a choice and are involved in what is served in the school canteen.
Recently, Kaylesh Patel suggested a curry to be incorporated on the menu. The school cook has tested it out and held a tasting session (which was delicious!). So look out for ‘Kaylesh's Curry' as our ‘Dish of the Day'.
If you feel that you have a recipe that could be the next ‘Dish of the Day' please see the school cook or members of the SNAG. Miss Saby

Year 7 & 8 Design a Poster
Design a poster on how to stop bullying. Say what you think bullying is and how it makes you feel. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each year group. Put your name on the poster and place them in the plastic wallets placed around the school.
For more information please see Nicole Brooks, Rakaya Jones, Faith Miller or Melissa Wilkes.

Radio Club
Please can all original members attend a meeting on Friday at 12.30 in the Video Conference Room.
Many Thanks - Sam Gocher

London Trip
We have a few extra places for the trip to London on 2nd & 3rd June. We will be seeing ‘Romeo & Juliet' at the Globe Theatre, ‘Oliver' in the West End and visiting the London Dungeon.
The Cost of £215 will cover all activities, transport and accommodation.
Please see Ms Parry or Miss Rees if you are interested.

Year 10 Work Experience
Could all parents please sign the work experience consent forms and return them to school as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Kielder Challenge 2009
Yesterday a team of eight Yr 9 & 10 pupils competed in the Kielder Challenge at Wepre Park. We had to do 5 different challenges each lasting half an hour. The challenges looked easy but they were quite hard. Planning and team work were the most important elements in each task and we were awarded points for each activity. We competed against four other high schools and were really excited as we came 1st! As we won our heat we may go through to the final which is held in Kielder Forest next September.
The team members were;
Jonathan Bellis Tara Donlon Andrew Vaughan
Joe Mason Symonne Hyde Billy Mittell-Simpson
Rob Loxton Amy Darlington
